Jaydan Moore has created a composition-language that references the decorative arts and historical silver, and found silver-plated platters are his medium- sometimes immediately recognizable with handles and edges visible, other times less evident. His sculptures are created by hand using all the skilled methods of traditional metal crafts yet the work is undeniably finding its place in the realm of Fine Art.
Jaydan Moore joined with Ornamentum in 2015 and was first presented at the Collective Design Fair in NYC. Subsequently his work has been featured at Design Miami/ Basel and Design/ Miami, where he has become a crowd favorite, with his works being acquired by important private and public collections, including the Carnegie Museum of Art and Honolu Museum of Art and MFA Houston. Later this year, Moore's first platter wall piece will be exhibited at the MFA Boston.
"Ornamentum Gallery is an institution. They have been a catalyst in how contemporary jewelry is envisioned through their exhibitions and stellar collection of artists. For twenty years, they have succeeded in presenting ever-evolving contemporary metalwork to the public to grow the cultural understanding of what jewelry means to our society.
Alongside their pedigree, Laura and Stefan have been family. Their kindness and generosity make being a part of their network a pleasure. They have helped me grow as an artist over the years we have worked together. I am honored to work with Ornamentum Gallery and look forward to growing together over the years to come." JM

Jaydan Moore was born into a family of fourth generation tombstone makers in California. Most of his childhood was largely spent at the family business, which doubled as a rental storage space; where he would rummage through other peoples objects, and listen to families making arrangements for their loved ones. It is these experiences that made him value the heirlooms and objects we choose to use as markers for significant moments. His career began as an undergraduate student at California College of the Arts, in Oakland, where Jaydan earned a BFA in jewelry and metal arts under Marilyn da Silva. While studying at CCA, he worked as a machinist and bench jeweler for the high-end metal production company, Svartvik Metal Works. Jaydan received his MFA and MA from University of Wisconsin-Madison under professors Lisa Gralnick and Kim Cridler, and was given a University Fellowship while there. Upon completing his graduate degree,
Jaydan has furthered his career through generous opportunities as an artist in residence at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, as Fountainhead Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth Universities Craft/Material Studies Program, and a grant from the Peter S. Reed Foundation. He has shown in recent exhibitions at Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts, California College of the Arts, Page Bond Gallery (VA), Stephen F. Austin Universities Art Gallery (TX), Asheville Area Arts Council, Overture Gallery (WI), and Brooklyn Metal Works. He has also held teaching appointments at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Craft Materials Studies Program, California College of the Arts, and Houston Community College. Jaydan has held a three-year residency at Penland School of Craft, followed by a residency at the Kohler Center in Wisconsin. Jaydan Moore resides currently in Richmond, Virginia, and has held occassional teaching positions at Virginia Commonwealth University in addition to maintaining a studio where he builds his portfolio further.
We are thrilled to announce that Platter / Rather, a large wall artwork by Jaydan Moore, exhibited at the December Design/ Miami fair, was recently selected for acquisition by the board of the Carnegie Museum for the museum's permanent collection. According to the curators, in addition to being a visually striking arwork, this piece creates an exciting bridge from their extensive historical silver collection to the realm of the contemporary.
Other works by Moore can be found in the collections of the MFA Houston and the Honolulu Museum of Art, as well as the University of Little Rock Arkansas Galleries.
